Plot Armor
Ahh, the infamous plot armor. While it works wonders for manga writers when they need to protect their favorite characters from demise, it often leaves readers frustrated at how an interesting, dangerous, and engaging situation was resolved simply because a character in trouble got a random power-up out of nowhere.
For our story, we’ll try to refrain from using blatant plot armor as much as possible. Here are some guidelines.
What is Plot Armor?
For the purposes of our story, plot armor refers to when your character is in trouble and miraculously escapes with abilities or powers that seem to have come from nowhere. Or if your character just randomly lives though something that should have obviously killed them.
How to Correctly Use Plot Armor
There’s a good reason why the best stories, manga, and anime use plot armor. It works! A story without some sort of plot armor would come off as far too logical and dull. That being said, there are acceptable ways to go about using plot armor to your advantage without it coming off as a bullshit clutch.
Your characters should definitely awaken some unexpected abilities, as that’s what makes the story interesting. However, there should already be signs suggesting that somewhere before it happens.
In one of the most famous fights of Bleach, the main character Ichigo fights against his rival Byakuya. Byakuya outplays him and roots him in place before firing a point blank lightning attack through his chest. Before getting beheaded, Ichigo suddenly generates a hollow mask, gains super physical powers, catches Byakuya’s sword barehanded, and proceeds to beat the shit out him.
While this would normally classify as plot armor, the author used it correctly. All throughout the series before this fight, it was shown that Ichigo had some tie to the hollow mask. The author goes out of his way to note the presence of it well before the fight in which Ichigo gains mask powers, effectively foreshadowing its debut.
Thus, if you feel like your character should have some hidden potential abilities, make sure that there are clues and signs pointing to them before they get into the situation in which they need to use it.
Plot Armor

Lucky Bob! He’s The Protagonist of a story, The Hero whose predestined role is to oppose — maybe even defeat — the villain. He’s essential to the plot, which means he can’t be removed from the story until the final confrontation.
But it wouldn’t make for a good story if Bob just strolled unchallenged to his encounter with destiny, so the author has to throw dangers in his way. A good author can keep it from being obvious that the orc he meets on page 56 can’t possibly stop Bob — not if he’s going to meet Fing the Fuming on page 237. But in less skilled hands, Bob’s invincibility on pages 1-236 becomes obvious. He doesn’t have talent or luck; he has a suit of divine armor which miraculously protects him from all lasting harm (until the plot calls for it). Even psychological trauma can be held at bay by Bob’s Plot Armor.
Sometimes referred to as «Script Immunity» or a «Character Shield», Plot Armor is when a main character’s life and health are safeguarded by the fact that he’s the one person who can’t be removed from the story. Therefore, whenever Bob is in a situation where he could be killed (or at the least very seriously injured), he comes out unharmed with no logical, In-Universe explanation. note A typical explanation is that Bob survived through sheer luck on the basis of the Anthropic Principle. If only one person is going to survive the story, that person has to be Bob for there to be a story.
Bear in mind that having Plot Armor is not the same as being Nigh Invulnerable. When Superman takes a bullet to the eye and survives, that’s his superhuman nature — there’s an explanation, albeit a fantastic one, for how he comes out unharmed. When Indiana Jones survives the same thing, that’s Plot Armor — the only explanation for his survival is that it’s only halfway through the movie and you know he can’t die yet. (Bonus points if he isn’t even blinded.)
The downside to all this, of course, is that when it is Bob’s time to die, nothing can save him. And his inability to prevent his own death may seem just as illogical as his ability to avoid it was forty pages ago, but alas, the plot gods giveth and the plot gods taketh away.
Typically absent in episodes involving an Expendable Alternate Universe, Time Travel, or any other guaranteed-Reset Button situation. It is suspended when the Hero Killer is present and it is the main reason the Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy is still in business (along with a handful of other tropes).
Sub Tropes of this include:
Compare Contractual Immortality (a meta trope where a character cannot truly be dead since his or her actor hasn’t left the show) and Rule of Empathy (which may give Plot Armor to sympathetic non-protagonist characters, including villains).

Tropedia

The main reason the Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy is still in business (along with a handful of other tropes). Just by being the main character, the laws of the world seem to bend around the character in a more than figurative way. For some reason (and not even an explicit ability), just being the main character or on his team protects you from death, serious wounds, and generally any sort of harm until dramatically appropriate. Even psychological damage can be beaten by Plot Armor. Unless you’re explicitly marked for death, or Tempting Fate.
The real reason, of course, is that the movie/book/game/etc. would be awfully short if the main character died the first time they should. But it can get somewhat unreal at times.
This trope is sometimes referred to as «Script Immunity» or a «Character Shield.»
Novice viewers will often confuse plot armor with more justified survival explanations. If Superman survives a bullet to the eye, that’s just him using his powers. Superman is Nigh Invulnerable. If Indiana Jones does, that’s plot armor. (Bonus points if he isn’t even blinded.)

Мне честно плевать почему Обито атакует Катоном. Про плот армор протагонистов все постоянно говорят, но никто не обращает внимание на плот армор антагонистов.
